Hikkaduwa Beach in Sri Lanka

The beach of Hikkaduwa is situated 98 km from Colombo towards the south of Sri Lanka. Hikkaduwa beach is highly picturesque and arguably the most beautiful stretch of beach in Ceylon. The coral sanctuary found on the coast of Hikkaduwa is a large shallow body of water enclosed by a reef, decorated with layers of multi coloured corals, which is home to countless number of colorful fish.

Hikkaduwa is well known as the only marine sanctuary in Sri Lanka which provides its visitors an underwater delight. The collection of tiny islets surrounded by exquisite corral formations gives significance to this beach compared with other beaches of the world.

This is one of the most popular Beach Resorts attraction in Sri Lanka. Corral Garden Hotel, Corral Sands Hotel, Hikkaduwa Beach Hotel, Lanka Super Corrals are some of the Hotels located along the coast line which stretch for more than 1000 Km offering a host of tourism opportunities.

This is also the perfect place, if you plan to gaze all the water sport activity from a distance without indulging in it. More towards the south side from the center of the reef, stands a place where there is a more sandy bottomed beach with good waves and breez ideal for Board Surfing, and Body Surfing. You can always rent the necessary equipment needed for snorkeling and surfing. Basking on the beach in Sri Lankan sunshine and taking on the sun is another good option. There is nothing more mesmerizing in Sri Lankan Beaches than to see the sun sinking into the Indian ocean from the Hikkaduwa Beach.
